DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide daily care and feeding for a variety of animal species in accordance with their specific needs.
- Monitor animal behavior, health, and well-being, ensuring early detection of illness or distress.
- Develop and implement enrichment programs to promote natural behaviors and mental stimulation for the animals.
- Maintain clean, safe, and secure habitats for all animals.
- Assist with the design and development of animal enclosures, ensuring they meet international welfare standards.
- Prepare and administer medications as prescribed by veterinary staff.
- Maintain detailed records of animal health, behavior, and dietary habits.
- Collaborate with veterinarians, nutritionists, and other specialists to provide comprehensive animal care.
- Support conservation, breeding, and research programs as needed.
- Educate and engage with the public, providing information on animal behavior, conservation, and welfare practices.
- Assist with training animals for medical procedures and daily routines.
- Participate in emergency response protocols for animal incidents or health emergencies.
- Contribute to staff training and development programs related to animal care
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Type & Level
Bachelor’s degree in Zoology, Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, or a related field.
Certification in animal care or welfare (preferred).
Specific Professional Competencies
- Strong understanding of animal welfare standards and species-specific husbandry requirements.
- Knowledge of animal behavior and enrichment practices.
- Experience in handling and caring for a wide variety of animal species, including exotic and endangered species.
Language Skills: Language & Levels
Azerbaijani and English
Computer Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency in animal management software (e.g., ZIMS – Zoological Information Management System).
- Microsoft Office Suite for reporting and record-keeping.
Work Experience: Area & Length
5+ years of experience in animal care, preferably in a zoo, sanctuary, or wildlife facility.
