In 2018, the team successfully introduced the pioneering neobank, Space, in Georgia. Building upon this success, subsequent efforts were directed towards the creation and launch of the fully digital bank in Uzbekistan, TBC UZ, in 2020. In a significant move towards enhancing its foothold in the Uzbek market, the group acquired Payme, a prominent local payments provider and esteemed brand among the Uzbek populace, in 2023.

Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Data Architect to design and lead the evolution of our modern data platform. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in big data architectures, cloud-native analytics, and machine learning infrastructure, combined with a strong background in enterprise data modeling, metadata governance, and system scalability.

You will play a pivotal role in defining our lakehouse architecture, unified metadata and permissions model, and data privacy vaults, ensuring our data ecosystem supports advanced analytics, ML/AI use cases, and business growth.

Primary Focus:

Architectural Leadership

• Define and maintain the company’s data architecture vision, including data lakehouse, ingestion, semantic, and serving layers.
• Design end-to-end data pipelines and systems that integrate structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data across multiple domains.
• Lead architecture reviews, create architecture decision records (ADRs), and enforce best practices for data quality, lineage, and scalability.
• Drive data platform modernization — migrating legacy systems to cloud-native, open table format (e.g., Iceberg/Delta/Hudi) architectures.

Platform Design & Engineering

• Architect and optimize distributed data processing systems using Apache Spark, StarRocks, and Hive Metastore.
• Implement and manage metadata, catalog, and permission layers via tools like Apache Ranger, AWS Glue, or custom-built metadata services.
• Define the technical foundation for data privacy vaults, data contracts, and data governance frameworks.
• Collaborate with infrastructure and DataOps teams to ensure high availability, cost efficiency, and observability of the data platform.

AI & Advanced Analytics Enablement

• Partner with data scientists and ML engineers to ensure seamless model training and deployment on large-scale datasets.
• Architect feature stores, ML pipelines, and event-driven data services for real-time analytics and recommendation systems.

Strategic Influence & Mentorship

• Work closely with business and technology leadership to align data strategy with business goals.
• Mentor engineers and analysts in data modeling, distributed systems design, and platform best practices.
• Evaluate and adopt emerging open-source frameworks and AI infrastructure technologies.

Qualifications:

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, data platform, or architecture roles.
• Expert-level knowledge of distributed data systems (Spark, Flink, Kafka, Hive, StarRocks).
• Deep understanding of open table formats (Iceberg, Delta, Hudi) and lakehouse principles.
• Hands-on experience designing metadata, governance, and privacy frameworks.
• Familiarity with machine learning infrastructure, stream processing, and data-intensive applications.
• Strong communication and documentation skills (e.g., RFCs, ADRs, data platform blueprints).
• Background in data-driven product development and enterprise data architecture.
