Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver, and assess university-level English language courses (general, academic English, and English for Specific Purposes as needed) at undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
- Design, update, and align curricula, syllabi, and instructional materials with program learning outcomes and accreditation standards.
- Develop and administer formative and summative assessments; provide timely, constructive feedback; monitor student progress; maintain accurate records.
- Maintain regular office hours, advise students, supervise undergraduate projects, theses, or internships related to language studies, and mentor teaching assistants.
- Engage in scholarly activity: conduct research in applied linguistics/TESOL, publish in peer-reviewed outlets, present at conferences, and pursue internal or external funding opportunities.
- Contribute to program and institutional service: participate in committees, curriculum review, accreditation processes, and quality assurance activities.
- Utilize and innovate with technology: integrate LMS (e.g., Canvas, Moodle), multimedia resources, online and blended learning, and digital assessment tools.
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments to support language across the curriculum and participate in outreach and recruitment activities.
- Promote inclusive, accessible, and student-centered instruction; address diverse learning needs and foster a positive learning environment.
Requirements
- Education: PhD in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Linguistics, or a closely related field; or a Master’s degree with substantial teaching and research experience relevant to English language instruction (consideration for non-tenure track as appropriate).
- Language proficiency: Native English speaker or non-native English speaker with high proficiency in English (evidence of teaching ability in English; standardized tests or demonstrated success in English-language instruction may be requested).
- Teaching experience: Demonstrated university-level teaching experience in English language instruction; strong record of teaching effectiveness and curriculum/assessment design.
- Research and scholarly potential: Active or promising research agenda in relevant fields; ability to supervise graduate students and contribute to the department’s scholarly output.
- Pedagogy and assessment: Knowledge of evidence-based teaching methods, classroom assessment, and strategies for diverse learners; experience with course design, rubrics, and student assessment.
- Technology and delivery: Proficiency with learning management systems, educational technologies, and online/hybrid teaching modalities.
- Communication and collaboration: Excellent written and spoken communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Service commitment: Willingness to participate in committees, accreditation work, student advising, and other service activities.
- Work eligibility: Legal authorization to work in the country; ability or willingness to obtain any required visas or permits as applicable.
Optional (preferred) qualifications
- Experience with English for Academic Purposes (EAP) or English for Specific Purposes (ESP), materials development, or language assessment design.
- Publications in reputable journals or conference presentations in applied linguistics/TESOL.
- Interest in or experience with open educational resources, instructional design, or language testing and evaluation.
