Position Overview:
This position reports to the Lead Wellsite Geologist and requires close coordination with 2 onsite geologists, 2 sample catchers, and technical teams based in Calgary and Uzbekistan.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and document all geological events during drilling operations
Ensure drilling follows the well plan and communicate deviations with the Calgary team
Real-time monitoring of drilling parameters, gas readings, and lithology
Operate and maintain gas trap/agitation and gas analysis systems; perform gas injectivity tests
Identify and evaluate mud losses, kicks, torque, WOB, and other drilling anomalies
Perform cuttings description, including lag time calculation and hydrocarbon shows evaluation
Apply Dunham’s classification system for carbonates; visually assess porosity/permeability
Collect, label, and store cutting samples accurately
Monitor lithological changes to identify stratigraphic tops and casing points (based on correlation with offset wells)
Supervise core points, core cutting, tripping, surface handling, labeling, packing, and sealing for transport
Oversee directional drilling and LWD/MWD operations; ensure data quality
Monitor wireline logging activities and provide quality control oversight
Submit daily geological reports and final well reports in a timely and accurate manner
Requirements:
Minimum 10 years of experience in drilling operations, exploration, or development wells (vertical, deviated, horizontal)
Solid experience in:
Cuttings analysis and lithological descriptions
Hydrocarbon show evaluation
Core handling and macro description
Wireline logging QC
Casing point identification and cementing
Experience working with depleted reservoirs is highly preferred
Knowledge of directional drilling and geosteering techniques
Familiarity with MWD/LWD tools and data interpretation
Languages:
English — Required (fluent in speaking, reading, writing)
Uzbek — Preferred
Russian — Preferred
Rotation Schedule: 14/14 or 28/28
