As an international British independent school in Almaty, we are looking for Junior School Maths Olympiad Teacher, who will develop Olympiad skills with pupils in Mathematics and support students in their training and entry into local, National and International Olympiad Competitions.
Responsibilities:
- Develop Mathematics Olympiad classes to stretch and extend the more able Junior school pupils in all areas of their Mathematics.
- Help assess and select pupils for inclusion within the Junior School Mathematics extension programme with the Junior School Head of Mathematics and Junior School Senior Leadership Team.
- Liaise carefully with Junior School Senior Leadership Team and the Junior School Head of Mathematics to plan and schedule all Olympiad Mathematics lessons and CCAs (co-curricular activities) to involve the most suitable pupils and avoid any clashes with other timetabled activities.
- Promote and encourage maximum involvement of pupils in the Junior School to help them to discover and enjoy their Mathematical abilities.
- Assist in the transition of pupils at all year groups so that high level Mathematics skills are promoted and progressed well.
- Ensure there is careful liaison with the Senior School Mathematics Department and Olympiad teachers of Mathematics to ensure there is a good fit with the programmes in the Senior School and a smooth route forward for these pupils.
- Ensure that pupils and parents of high mathematical ability at Haileybury Almaty Junior School have good awareness and involvement in Mathematical events in Almaty and within Olympiad and extension programmes.
- Administer and run the UK Mathematical extension programmes such as the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust programmes including the Primary Mathematics Challenge, the First Mathematics Challenge and the Junior Mathematics Challenge.
- Prepare Junior School pupils strongly and well for their best results in these Olympiads and Mathematics Challenges.
- Take an active role in organising, along with the Head of Junior School Mathematics and the Head of Senior School Mathematics events hosted by Haileybury Almaty to promote Mathematics.
- Liaise with and communicate all activities to parents and through social media including close liaison with the Communications Department team to promote Mathematics extension at Haileybury Almaty.
Requirements:
- Have excellent organisational skills.
- Demonstrates good coaching skills within a team environment
- Three years’ experience in teaching Mathematics.
- Strong commitment to supporting all aspects of our Mathematics and Olympiad programmes.
- Graduate qualified teacher.
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject area.
- Experience in training pupils and creating materials for Mathematics Olympiad.
- Advanced level of English
- Master’s degree an advantage.
Work period: Full time contract with 5-day/40-hours working week from 7:30 to 16:30 with 2 days-off on weekends.
